Come for a visit and let us introduce you to our beautiful studio, see work on display and in progress, watch demonstrations and ask questions of the pros. The state of the art studio is well equipped with some of the best tools and machinery making it THE place for local amateurs to learn and create. The studio, managed by Urban Woodworker, teaches woodworking courses to the public and offers Open Studio times for people to come in and use the facility to work on their own projects.

Winter Season Registrations

Our Winter Season courses are open for registration in all three locations. For Roundhouse please use the search term “woodworking” at Roundhouse. Check out the new Saturday morning courses In Lower Lonsdale – The Dovetail Joint and Spoon Carving.

Courses to consider when you are looking for something different.

Wood Turning – We are often asked what is Wood Turning. Wood turning involves making round forms. For example making wooden bowls (see the main pic), vases, round lidded boxes, table legs etc. Wood turning is fun and a great way to be creative with both the imperfections of the material and with form (shapes). Turning projects typically can be made with windfall wood and can be completed quite quickly when compared to typical furniture projects.

Pen Turning – Another form of wood turning involves making pens. Yes writing pens. We in fact offer a course occasionally in making pens and presently we are offering a course in Pen Making at Roundhouse that runs over two sessions starting Saturday Dec 16. There are still a few spots left. That pen could be the perfect Christmas Holiday Gift.

Edge Grain Cutting boards – Woodworking Basics is a popular course that runs over 4 sessions and is a great way to get to learn more about wood, the machines and how to safely use them, while you make your own stunning cutting board. Cutting boards and charcuterie boards are always a hit as gifts and are easy on the budget.
