We have just completed a fantastic spoon carving course in our North Vancouver studio. Spoon Carving is a great way to get a better understanding of the nature of wood as a material and to experience what its like to work with a sharp tool. It’s often said that a sharp tool is a safer tool that a dull one. This is especially true in spoon carving when you are holding the wood in one hand and the tool in the other. You really don’t want to have to force the tool but rather to let the edge do its job and you the carver simply steer it and interpret the feedback. Having to force the tool can result in the tool breaking free and gouging you or anything in its release direction.
Next time you consider buying gifts why not carve a spoon. A gift made by you with thoughtful consideration of the person you intend to give it to, will always be specially appreciated.
